The Warmth

By Iwate Angler - 4月 02, 2019

Once curtains were open, the white snow world came into my sight, making me feel cold, demotivating my passion about fishing. The cold floor and stairs were aching the bottom of my feet, so I sat down in front of a stove, lied down curled up, then grabbed my dog up to my chest against her will in order to get warmth. After having two slices of bread and a glass of tea, my heavy bottom was up, body was ready to be active.

I prefer fishing with friends of mine to alone because we can talk on the way to a fishing spot, share beautiful moments of such as catching and missing a fish, teach and learn from each other and so on. Today, Takahisa Kitaguchi, a fishing and coffee lover, was accompanied. He always behaves like a concierge at an expensive hotel, has a charming smile with innocence, has a sense of humor like a comedian, and also has a talent of cooking like a chef. He is one of my friends who have natural warmth in their heart.

The ground covered with snow was telling it was so freezing out that we hesitated to go out of our car warmed by AC. After appreciated the modern convenience, we jumped out of, put on a fishing wader and boots, set up a fishing tackle, then thought to head to the river. However, as always, our hiding car key stopped us to walk. Depression. As expected, the water of a river was unbearably chilly, showing us no sign of fish. After 10 minutes of investigation, we spotted a school of fish at a place, they were gathering with their bodies touched and sitting on the bottom. Some of our casts did not entice them, yet another attempt with a different lure pushed their buttons to be hunters. As our expectation increased, our body was getting warmer. Simultaneously, a fish was more and more changing like the cold blood started to be running over his body, then finally held the attractive lure, WISE MINNOW 50FS, between his lips. After adding his one more peer, I gave them time to chill out this time while taking pictures.

We drove to a different river, named Omoto. Some information had said that the river had warmer water thanks to spring water which was surely warmer than the one from the mountains. In the river, fish were very active so that they chased lures quickly and violently as if a dog were crazy about catching a ball in an extensive plain. Easier and constant responses made us content with, go back to the car, and change our clothes to warm our bodies.

We will seek coldness in no time: just two months, a hot season.
